The network will make its debut in Spanish television screen this weekend when they transmit weekend’s matches from Europe and throughout South America. Spanish network Mediapro joined forces with the all-soccer network and they were able to agree with regional networks like Euskaltel, Orange, and Telecable. Gol, alongside Mediapro, will become the biggest players in the Spanish market, taking the thunder away from rivals Sogecable and their operator, Digital+. Mediapro now owns the woldwide rights to La Liga as well as rights to various European and international leagues in Spain.
According to La Razón, Mediapro was able to come to terms with the three big cable companies in Spain and have them place Gol TV in their basic cable package in an effort to give soccer fans in Spain more access to La Liga (they have worldwide rights) as well as live and tape delay matches from Germany, England, Italy, France, Scotland, Portugal, Holland, Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, and even Morocco. Sogecable at one pointhad the Spanish rights to many of these leagues.
Coincidentally, the US-network surname happens to have the rights to several of the aformentioned leagues both in the United States as well as in Latin America and Canada. Their weekend programming will consist of Bayern Munich-Werder Bremen, Sunderland- Middlesbrough, Le Havre-Olympique Lyon, Sporting Lisbon-Os Belenenses, Feyenoord-Ajax, Manchester City-Portsmouth and Marseille-Mónaco

This is great news for fans in Spain will have more games available on TV, especially other Spanish teams and get away from the BS fight between Sogecable and Media Pro. Maybe we in the US can get more Spanish games on the air as an added benefit. We need to bombard and email GOL TV for more games!
This is not the same GolTV. Read the articles in the Spanish press and it is clear. This is a new channel launch by MediaPro. The head of this new Gol TV is Catalan not Uruguayan.
