Who Is Vicente Boluda?

Real Madrid´s world went crazy at the begin­ning of the week and the shit hit the fan on Fri­day as vice pres­i­dent that was in rel­a­tive anonymity was thrust in to the posi­tion of being the top author­ity at Spain´s biggest club.

Now he will have (at least on an interim basis) the respon­si­bil­ity to keep the Merengue boat afloat.  This mar­itime lawyer from Valen­cia will have the respon­si­bil­ity to move the club on despite their prob­lems this sea­son so far.  For him it would seem like a hand in glove type of sit­u­a­tion that would cater to his par­tic­u­lar realm of expe­ri­ence.  He is among one of the more qual­i­fied indi­vid­u­als for this post.

Vicente Boluda Fos was born on March 31, 1955 and has been a mem­ber of the club since 1989.   His resume in the nave­g­a­tion and mar­time indus­try is quite exten­sive.  Boluda earned a law degree as well as a series of Mas­ters degrees in mar­itime law from the Uni­ver­si­dad Com­plutense. He is also a mem­ber of the Acad­e­mia Española de Jurispru­den­cia y Leg­is­lación (Span­ish Acad­emy of Jurispru­dence and Leg­is­la­tion) as well as pres­i­dent of the regional water com­pany, Aguas de Valen­cia .

The Real Madrid pres­i­dent is also the head of the sec­ond largets mar­time com­pany in the world when it comes to tow­ing and nav­i­ga­tion indus­try, Cor­po­ración Mar­itima Boluda.  His com­pany encom­passes 85 soci­eties and par­tic­i­pat­ing cor­po­ra­tions.   His com­pany held 340 cargo ships that are val­ued any­where between €1.5–2 bil­lion and they employ close to 4,000 employees.

He has worked in con­junc­tion with var­i­ous other asso­ci­a­tions in the marine indus­try the Span­ish Min­istry of Defense as their mar­itime expert.

If there is a neg­a­tive to hav­ing a per­son like Boluda Fos is his direct involve­ment with the recent past– Calderón´s past.  He became vice pres­i­dent of the entity as soon as Calderón was ¨elected¨back in 2006.  He replaced Juan Men­doza, father of for­mer pres­i­dent and Calderón´s polit­i­cal rival through­out the 90´s Ramón Mendoza.

Men­doza resigned from his posi­tion after a dis­agree­ment between him and var­i­ous other board mem­bers over a sup­posed an sup­posed part­ner­ship that was put in place between the club and the NBA.
